Major Apple mess up: This computer is already associated with an Apple ID

Over the summer, as most of you know, I bought a pretty supped up iMac – which until now I have loved. I have five accounts (kids, wife, etc) on the iMac which includes mine. I purchased the iMac with a terabyte drive knowing my children would each use it for things like MS Office, school work, internet, games, and iTunes.  Oh, iTunes… not so fast apparently.  When I went to set up my son Nathans iTunes on the iMac for his new iPad and iPod Shuffle, this is what I got:

So my son could not get his music on his shuffle – being 11, he was pretty upset. I call into Apple support, which was actually pleasant and they unlocked my computer so my son could get his songs. The only problem now is, when I logged into my account and attempted to download a song from iCloud, guess what I got?  Here is a hint:

iTunes only allows ONE Apple ID to be assigned to a COMPUTER. Not an account on a computer, the actual computer!

No other software on the Mac does this. Each account has its own Office 365 license, etc and they all work fine. If piracy is to blame for this “feature” then I suggest you find another way of preventing piracy because this really does limit the concept of the “family” computer. Which is probably just another ploy to make everyone have their own computer.

If you are like me and think this is absolutely ridiculous then go to this article and please comment.
