Using a Notes Outline to control page navigation in a composite application

Last week the composite application team published several articles for the upcoming Notes 8.5.2 release.  One of the most annoying things with composite applications in the past was the fact you could not use Notes technologies (forms, navigators, pages, etc) as a navigation mechanism in a composite.  This means if your composite had more than one page or aggregated several composites you could not write a control using Notes technologies to switch between perspectives.  Perspectives are an Eclipse thing and pages are essentially the same thing – a page is a dynamic perspective that is created through an XML definition on the fly.  So the article, Using a Notes Outline to control page navigation in a composite application, shows how you can switch Eclipse perspectives within a composite using a CAI url.

Using the technique mentioned in the article you can now use any Lotus based technology to navigate the current composite application using CAI URL’s.  There was another article about CAI URl’s also posted, you can reference that for how to construct a CAI URL and use the new pagealias parameter and have the UNID blanked out.

Here is a screen shot where the Notes Page in the left side bar can switch between pages of the composite:
