IBM Sales Center – an Eclipse RCP application

Often a community does not know about other communities or what technologies they use every day are also used in other products or industries. The IBM Sales Center is an Eclipse/Lotus Expeditor based application and it is used in conjunction with Websphere Commerce and more specifically in call centers. The application allows connectivity to multiple stores allowing a single person to support many storefronts.

IBM Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce is a new and separately orderable feature that leverages the catalog, order management, promotions, and merchandising capabilities of WebSphere Commerce to provide call center representatives with the functionalities they require to service and up-sell to
cross-channel customers. — link

Is Eclipse 4 a game changer? It may be…

If you are not aware, Eclipse 4 is well under way. You may also see a huge push for web based user interfaces in rich clients – ie. applications based on the Rich Client Platform. This shouldn’t be new to the Lotus or Eclipse community because you have probably seen many projects posted on OpenNTF that have 100% web based UI’s (ie. user interfaces that are written almost entirely in HTML and JavaScript). The Attachment Viewer is one of them.

Bioclipse is very cool indeed

If you have not heard of Bioclipse then check it out. This is an amazing project and it is another great proof point for how valuable Eclipse is in the Rich Client Platform space.

Eclipse Rich Client Platform, Second Edition

I just read from Chris’s blog the second edition for the ever so popular book Eclipse Rich Client Platform can be pre-ordered at this time.  Check out the books site and pre-order your copy today.  This series has been what I consider the books to get your head around what Eclipse really offers, if you are serious about Eclipse or any of the products based on Eclipse then this book is for you.  This is not a book review and I could of course be wrong about promoting this but I am pretty sure from this case of authors and editors the information within will be well worth it.

Online Eclipse RCP Training

I was checking my blog this morning for comments and I noticed this Google Ad for Quickstart Eclipse RCP Training so I clicked the link and found a pretty nice venue for Eclipse RCP education.  I often recommend the old RCP book (which is kind of dated at this point) and I think getting a fresh online course is much better considering most of what you can find is on the internet.  Once you get a primer with the basics you will be able to Google for just about anything.  This course looks like it starts in about 2 weeks.

From the site:

Public RCP Quickstart course to be held online, June 24th – 26th, 2009.

Logistics

This course will be held online using the GoToMeeting service. The PDF manual and lab materials will be delivered as an encrypted archive available a few days before the course begins.
The timing of the course is meant to be convenient for students throughout North America, though you’re welcome to take the course from anywhere in the world. The specific course times for the North American time zones are as follows:

  • Eastern: 11am – 6pm
  • Central: 10am – 5pm
  • Mountain: 9am – 4pm
  • Pacific: 8am – 3pm
